Posts, or rather the lack of posts…

Sorry I haven’t been posting that much recently. I have been swamped with school work and I just haven’t had time to write. Even now I should be finish a history project so I have to wrap this up. Look for a new post on Thursday (hopefully).

Not really drum related, but still important

http://www.mdgmonitor.org/index.cfm

“The MDG Monitor shows how countries are progressing in their efforts to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). With the 2015 target date fast approaching, it is more important than ever to understand where the goals are on track, and where additional efforts and support are needed, both globally and at the country level.” – The MDG Website

Cool Music Suggestion Tool

http://audiomap.tuneglue.net is a website that let’s you type in an artist or group. Then it you can click expand and it will show you some related artists or groups. In this picture I typed Miles Davis, expanded it, then expanded Coltrane. It’s really helpful if you are looking for new music.

Spirit of Jazz

I just thought this was a cool slideshow that Getty put together showing jazz through pictures.

Three Albums of Awesome

If you are someone who has a lot of music on your computer, iPod, mp3 player, or wherever you keep your music, chances are that you don’t really listen to all your music. I know that’s true for me seeing as how my iPod has close to 9000 songs on it. I have listened to a lot of them, but I know there are some on there that I have either never listened to, and some that I have barely listened to. Tim over at the caffeinated drummer has a pretty good idea for this situation. Basically you take 3 albums and just listen to them for a month. For more in depth explanation of this, head over to his blog and read his post on the subject. Here’s a link to his post: http://timkerrmusic.wordpress.com/2009/11/15/three-albums-of-awesome-part-one/.

The Chinese Mythical Beast Versus the Russian

If you understood the title of this, than you know I’m going to be talking about tempo. More specifically dragging (dragon) and rushing (Russian). There is never really a time when you should being doing either of these things, and I think that they often get mixed up with playing in front of or behind the beat. When you are playing ahead of or behind the beat, you still have a solid, unchanging sense of where one is, as opposed to dragging or rushing, when you actually quicken or slow down the tempo. As a drummer the most important thing should be the tempo, so dragging and rushing are habits that must be eliminated.

Video Section!!!

So the video section actually has something in it now. I just finished adding 18 videos to the Jazz section, but I hope to get at least 100 videos up throughout the categories by next week.  It’s almost 2:00 AM here in Southern California, and my cognitive abilities are slowing down. So I’m going to go to bed now. I should have more videos up tomorrow (well actually later today), providing I can finish my Math and History homework early. Feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Being Relaxed, and update information

So it’s been a while since I last really posted on here. And when I mean post I don’t mean any of those short little dinky posts I put up that have almost no content or have promises that I haven’t completely lived up to. But don’t worry I will try to post more often and I will finish that video page.

I really want to get that video page up because i think that there are a lot valuable resources out there that aren’t always easy to find. And what’s more, most of them are free, especially on YouTube. However, when I go to look things up I almost always get the same few channels like Freedrumlessons.com, or Mike Johnston’s videos. And don’t get me wrong, these are great videos especially Mike’s because they really make you work hard. But I know there are other people out there that post great videos, and I want to make a place where people can access them a lot faster. I especially want to make it easier to find stuff based upon skill level and genre. So today I want to see if I can get at least a few videos up. In the meantime, I’m going to talk a little about being relaxed.

Starting Again

So it has been a while since I really did anything with this website because I have been busy with my other business, school, and with my jazz band. But, I’ve decided to begin compiling a collection of drum videos from YouTube that I have found that are useful for drummers of all ages and skill levels. I’ll try to break them up int categories as best as I can, and you ca expect the first round of these videos to be up withing this week. I’m not sure if YouTube partners can make money off of embedded videos so I’ll have to provide links to those.
